Ayat ul Kursi (آية الكرسي) is a free Islamic app for listening to, reading, and reflecting on Āyat al-Kursī (Sūrah Al-Baqarah, verse 255), with multiple reciters, translations, transliteration, tafseer summaries, and virtue cards. It is available on iOS and Android. This Privacy Policy explains what limited information the app handles and why. The app is provided by [ Muhammad Mudassar ] (“we”, “us”, “our”).
Information we do not collect
We designed Ayat ul Kursi to need as little information as possible. The app does not:
- require an account, sign-up, or login;
- collect your name, email, phone number, or other contact details;
- contain ads or advertising SDKs;
- use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, or build advertising profiles about you;
- access your location, contacts, microphone, or camera;
- contain user-generated content or social features;
- process payments or subscriptions;
- sell, rent, or share your personal data.
Information stored on your device
Your preferences and cached audio are stored locally on your device only — we have no servers that collect or hold this information, and it is not sent to us. This includes:
- selected reciter and selected translation language;
- Arabic font, font size, theme (dark/light/auto), and the transliteration toggle;
- playback preferences: repeat mode, repeat count, sleep timer, and playback speed;
- downloaded audio files and the record of which reciters you have downloaded.
This data stays on your device until you change it in the app, delete downloaded audio, clear the app’s data, or uninstall the app.
Internet & audio streaming
Ayat ul Kursi uses internet access for a single purpose: to stream or download recitation audio. When you press play (and the audio is not already downloaded), the app requests the recitation for your chosen reciter. As with any internet request, the audio provider’s servers automatically receive your device’s IP address in order to deliver the file. We do not attach any identifier of you to these requests, and we receive no data back about you.
AlQuran.Cloud API
Recitation audio and verse audio metadata are fetched from the AlQuran.Cloud API (https://api.alquran.cloud/) and its associated audio content delivery network. When you stream or download a recitation, a request is made to this service, which by its nature includes your IP address so it can return the audio. AlQuran.Cloud is an independent third-party service governed by its own terms and privacy practices. We do not share any personal data with it beyond what is technically required to deliver the audio you requested.
Offline downloads & cache
The app lets you download a reciter’s audio for offline listening. Downloaded files are saved in the app’s private storage on your device, and a local record keeps track of which reciters are downloaded so the app can play from the local file instead of streaming. If a downloaded file is missing or corrupted, the app removes that record and streams again. You can delete any downloaded audio from within the app at any time, or remove all of it by uninstalling the app.
Background audio & media controls
Ayat ul Kursi supports background playback and lock-screen / notification media controls so you can keep listening when the app is in the background or the screen is locked, and control playback (play, pause, next/previous reciter) from the lock screen or notification shade. To make this work, the operating system displays the track title (“Ayat ul Kursi”) and the selected reciter’s name in the system media controls. This information is shown by your device’s own media system and is not transmitted to us.
Children’s privacy
Ayat ul Kursi is suitable for a general audience, including families. The app does not require an account and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because it stores no personal data on our servers, there is no children’s data for us to hold. If you believe a child has provided personal information through any contact with us, please email us and we will address it.
Your rights — GDPR / UK GDPR
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or another region with similar laws, you have rights over your personal data, including the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because the app holds no account and stores your data on your own device, you are largely in direct control: you can view and change your settings, delete downloaded audio in the app, or remove everything by uninstalling. Where a legal basis is required, we rely on your consent and our legitimate interest in providing a functioning, privacy-respecting app. For any request you can contact us using the details below; you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Your rights — California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have rights to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not knowingly collect personal information from your use of the app, as your data stays on your device. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
Data retention
Because your data is stored on your own device, it remains there until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app. We do not keep a copy. Network requests to the audio provider are handled in real time to deliver the recitation and are subject to that provider’s own retention practices.
Data security
We minimise the data the app handles by design, and rely on your device’s built-in protections for data stored locally. Audio requests are made over standard secure connections where available. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we aim to protect your information using reasonable measures.
Religious content accuracy
Ayat ul Kursi includes Arabic Qur’anic text, transliteration, translations, summarised tafseer, and virtue/ḥadīth cards. This content is provided for your benefit and convenience and is not a substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar. Some translations, tafseer summaries, and ḥadīth references are being verified against authoritative sources and may be refined in future updates. If you notice an error, please tell us so we can review it. This note is included for transparency and does not affect how we handle your personal data.
